Flashback Western Classic: Rio Bravo Starring John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson

Rio Bravo is a 1959 American Western film produced and directed by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, and Ward Bond. Rio Bravo was filmed on location at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson, Arizona in Technicolor.

A small-town sheriff (John Wayne) in the American West enlists the help of a cripple, a drunk, and a young gunfighter in his efforts to hold in jail the brother of the local bad guy.

Because the film starred a crooner, Dean Martin, and a teen idol, Ricky Nelson, three songs were added to the soundtrack. Before the big showdown, in the jail house, Martin sings "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" (which contained new lyrics to a Tiomkin tune that appeared in Red River) accompanied by Nelson, after which Nelson sings a brief version of "Get Along Home, Cindy", accompanied by Martin and Brennan.

Rio Bravo is generally regarded as one of Howard Hawks' best, and likewise, it is considered one of john Waynes' best western films as well. And now, it gets the Blu-ray treatment on June 2, 2015.

The film also delivers a young Angie Dickinson as "Feathers" before she was Police Woman, and she lights up the screen with humor each time the camera finds her.
