Right off the bat in the latest production blog, Peter Jackson reveals that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will not have a presence at this month's Comic-Con.

Why not?  Because Jackson's still making the movie down in New Zealand, and he'll be shooting when San Diego turns into a marketing pressure cooker.  With no actors available for a panel and pick-ups taking up all of his time, Jackson can't exactly assemble a sizzle reel, so this will be a Hobbit-less year at the annual shindig.

"But wait," you're thinking, "Didn't Jackson already shoot these Hobbit pictures as one huge production like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy?"  Yeah, he did, but a year ago, he and his creative team convinced Warner Bros. to pony up the dough to turn their three-part adaptation of the little J.R.R. Tolkien novel into three movies.
