The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventures of title character Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage), on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new theatrical trailer for filmmaker Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Right off the bat in the latest production blog, Peter Jackson reveals that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will not have a presence at this month's Comic-Con.

Why not?  Because Jackson's still making the movie down in New Zealand, and he'll be shooting when San Diego turns into a marketing pressure cooker.  With no actors available for a panel and pick-ups taking up all of his time, Jackson can't exactly assemble a sizzle reel, so this will be a Hobbit-less year at the annual shindig.
