Full Recap (spoilers)

The tough Boston police detective Jane Rizzoli and the smart and always impeccably dressed Dr. Maura Isles return with five new episodes of Rizzoli & Isles.

The summer season of Rizzoli & Isles, where Jane overcame her and Frankie's emotional and physical scars when they were both wounded in the line of duty, Papa Rizzoli decided to divorce and Jane's brother, Tommy is released from jail, ended with Jane ultimately bringing down her worst enemy, the serial killer Michael Hoyt.

In Can I Get a Witness?, the BPD detectives deal with a case of a murdered community activist. A courageous witness, Dante, is supposed to testify against Little T, a feared gang-member suspected to have killed 15 people. But the night before the trial, despite his protective custody, Dante disappears from his hotel room and is killed.

The Assistant District Attorney Valerie Delgado (Roselyn Sanchez), who appears to be a pain for everyone from the very beginning, asks Korsak to produce his Confidential Informant now that Dante is dead. The Detective however says he can't and returns his badge to his superior. Dante's big secret - that Korsak was so determined to keep - was that he had a girlfriend and a baby.

Meanwhile, Angela is totally taken by Billy O'Reilly's Irish blue eyes while she watches his show on Maura's large plasma. Dr. Isles kind of shatters Mama Rizzoli's fantasy when she assumes out loud that he might be wearing contacts. Angela is so over the moon with O'Reilly that she would do anything to go to his book signing, and she convinces Maura to go with her. Making use of Maura's badge, she ditches the long line and stops in front of her idol completely starstruck and speechless. When Maura makes the introductions, O'Reilly realizes who Angela is. She regains her voice when she gives O'Reilly Jane's phone number.

Dr. Isles had to have a new moment where she showed the viewers she is more than a top-notch medical examiner and changes ADA Delgado's flat tire. This moment actually proved to be essential in solving the case.

As Maura finds evidence that leads Jane and the team to the actual crime scene in a park, they also find tire tracks. The roof nail imprint in the tire looked exactly like the one from Delgado's flat. Turned out quickly that Delgado was working for Little T and she was the one who lured poor Dante out of his hotel room to kill him. Now that was quite a twist. Thank you, Elisabeth Benjamin and Janet Tamaro!

Korsak got his badge back, Jane rejected two calls from O'Reilly and refused to be on his show, yet Angela was so proud in the end that the TV host spoke highly about her daughter and her latest solved case.

Next Week: He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

Boston Homicide teams up with the FBI after a bank manager is shot during a robbery. Jane's brother Tommy (guest star Colin Egglesfield) may be facing more trouble just as his relationship with Maura begins to grow. Tessa Thompson guest-stars as by-the-book FBI Agent Anna Farrell, who has a complicated history with Detective Frost.

Rizzoli & Isles

Follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles, complete opposites and good friends who solve crimes and bust some of Boston’s most notorious criminals. Growing up at opposite ends of the economic spectrum, the two remain strikingly different from one another in many ways. Jane, the only female detective in Boston’s homicide division, is a tough and gutsy cop who doesn’t let her guard down (except with Maura), dodges her overprotective mother and is better at basketball than her brother. Maura, meanwhile, is usually more comfortable among the dead than the living. She is always impeccably dressed in designer duds with a steady, sometimes icy temperament. And she is working on curbing her tendency to diagnose the people she meets – including her first dates. Jane and Maura often find themselves working together as both use their brilliant minds to solve cases.
