Full Recap (spoilers)
This Episode, The Runaway, follows one main plot centered around a runaway orphan named Leah Marcos. Apparently she hit the jungle running from the Sixers because she was tired of eating scraps. But in the process of her escape she lost her backpack, so two members of the security team scour the landscape to find it, end up captured by the Sixers, and used in a hostage exchange. Taylor gets his two soldiers released and allows Mira, the head of the Sixers, to speak with Leah and let her make the choice to stay or return with Mira. She chooses to stay.
Leah is not just a runaway (she looks like Newt from Aliens and I kept waiting for Ripley to show up), she was sent into Terra Nova to collect a box that Mira wants, but in her attempt to leave with the acquired baggage she is intercepted by Shannon and a couple other security officers. Plot spoiled, Leah says she has no idea what is in the box or why Mira wants it. Leah also explains she had no choice, Mira holds her brother and threatened to hurt him if she didn't do this deed.
Taylor and Shannon don't know what to believe, Taylor orders Shannon to return home and be with his family. Of course that's not likely to happen. Instead, he goes off into the jungle to find the elusive Sixer base and gets caught by a snare trap. While hanging upside down he almost becomes Dino food but the Sixers show up, lights out, and he wakes up on the floor with Mira standing over him. Looking through cracks in the floor he realizes they live up in the tree canopy not on the ground.
Mira tells him she has no choice in her actions and Commander Taylor has to fall, because powerful people from the future want it to happen and they have the ability, if she does her job, to send her daughter to be with her. Then she let's Shannon go, no exchange, no deals, she just let's him leave with Leah's brother.
Back at the Colony Taylor confronts Shannon about his foolish actions and not following orders. Shannon doesn't reveal the limited information he learned about Mira and her daughter. But happy sister and brother get adopted and now scraps are not an option.
We never do find out what’s in the box, but Taylor asks Malcolm to put it in a safe place and keep working on opening it.
General thoughts:
Why do people keep going out at night, isn't that the most dangerous time to go jungle boogie?
Why doesn't Shannon tell Taylor what he learned about Mira?
Why doesn't Terra Nova have flying drones to scout the area when things go missing, they are from the future?
Why do the Sixers look like the cast of a 'Mad Max: Road Warrior' movie?
For that matter, Elisabeth appears to be the head (only?) medical doctor. Did they not have anyone performing medical care during the first nine pilgrimages? Did all the other doctors die? Is she just that remarkably good? You’d think there would be some “I had that position!” arguments from the person who previously held her spot.
Terra Nova returns "MON 8/7c, OCT 31" with 'Bylaw'.
The colony falls victim to its first murder, and Jim and Taylor must find the perpetrator. Also, Skye helps Josh find a way to get Kira, his girlfriend from 2149, to the past, while Elisabeth and Zoe race to help an unborn Ankylosaurus survive.
