Full Recap (spoilers)
Gwen prepares to go to the Shanghai facility and remembers her father, the kindest man on Earth… and accepts that today is the day that she kills him.
In Buenos Aires, Rex squeezes out a drop of Jack's blood and he and Esther watch as it moves across the floor on its own. Gwen tracks the drop of Jack's blood in Shanghai and they track the movement of theirs. She tells them to protect their supply of Jack's blood. Meanwhile, Jack complains that all of his blood is moving on its own. In Buenos Aires, Jack clutches at his chest and Esther points out that death could catch up to him if they stop the Miracle. None of them know what lies along the pole stretching from Buenos Aires to Shanghai.
In the Shanghai pit, the Mother Colasanto orders her men to plant explosives to destroy the facility when she learns that forces are moving in. When Jilly wonders if that will destroy the Blessing, the Mother assures her that the Blessing will continue but no one can reach it, making it everlasting.
Gwen leaves to follow the blood trail and Oswald complains about how they're wasting time expressing their sentiments. Gwen aims her gun at him and warns him that murder will be coming back if they stop the Miracle. Rex tells Jack that he needs to bring in the CIA but promises not to give away Jack's location. Shapiro receives the call from Rex requesting a clandestine assault team, and then calls in translators and tells the team to go into special ops mode for an operation in Buenos Aires.
The Mother calls the Cousin in Shanghai and coordinates with him to set the destruction of both facilities simultaneously. She then tells Jilly that the two cities are near-perfect antipodes, and Jilly wonders why there isn't a release of magma. The Mother says that the laws of the Blessing are beyond them, and they were only able to discover it when they could crunch numbers and discover that populations in both cities within a two-mile radius perfectly reflected the world's average life expectancy. To conceal that information, they paid off the Chinese government. Now the Three Families are ready for what will be Phase 1 of their master plan.
Rex contacts Shapiro, who introduces Sandra Morales, their Spanish translator. Shapiro tells Rex that he'll be working with Captain Frederico Santos of the Argentinian Army. Esther feeds them a list of businesses along the Buenos Aires bloodline and asks them to trace them, but Charlotte warns they don't have the necessary information. Sandra contradicts her, pointing out they have the information on file, and Charlotte thanks her. Noah says that they should do the trace on the mole, but Shapiro warns that it could bring down the entire system. Charlotte asks and Noah explains that they have a way to trace the Three Families' signal to the source and find the mole.
Gwen follows the blood line to Shanghai Old Town and finds a door in a restaurant. The old woman who owns the restaurant reluctantly lets her through, warning that there are ghosts on the other side. An alley leading to the Families' Shanghai facility is on the other side. Gwen senses the Blessing and backs back into the restaurant, and calls to tell Jack what she's found.
Gwen follows the blood line to a restaurant and tells the owner to open a door blocking her way. The owner refuses, saying there are many ghosts on the other side, but Gwen pays her everything she has. On the other side she finds an alleyway leading to the Blessing facility. Sensing the presence of the Blessing, Gwen backs into the restaurant and calls Jack to tell her what she's found. Jack tells Oswald that they're moving out, and Jack tells Oswald that they're moving out.
Esther tracks the blood line to a street that is no longer on the maps. Santos and his men show up and Rex mobilizes them to head for the street. Meanwhile, Charlotte sends a phone signal to the Three Families.
Oswald asks Jack if they're coming back and then wonders who he really is. He points out that even Jack's friends are sometimes afraid of him. Jack finally says that he's from the future, but that he doesn't know what will happen because the future can be rewritten. He tells Oswald that he has seen the future and that it is magnificent. Jack tells Oswald that he wishes he could see it so that he'll realize how small and insignificant he really is.
As Gwen waits for Jack and Oswald, she calls Rhys. Andy is there and has set up Rhys with a police visa so that he can get in to see Geraint at the overflow camp. However, they can't get Mary in to see her husband. Geraint hasn't been sent to the ovens yet, and Rhys asks if there's anything Gwen wants to say to him. She worries that if she stops the Miracle, her father will die. Rhys and Mary tell her that she should let Geraint die because he's had his time, and what's important is that Gwen comes back alive. Gwen hangs up and the old lady brings her a cup of tea. She comments that Gwen is a sad girl and a crazy girl, and Gwen agrees.
Outside, Rex, Esther, and Santos prepare to leave for the Families facility. A young soldier takes Esther's case for her and puts it in the back. As she goes back to talk to Rex and Santos, the soldier pries the case open and confirms that the blood is inside. He then triggers a personal explosive charge before the other soldiers can stop him, killing himself, them, the truck, and the blood. The explosion knocks down Rex and the others, but they're far enough away to avoid being injured. Rex tells Santos to maintain radio silence so that their enemies will believe that they're dead as well.
At Langley, Charlotte confirms that they've lost radio contact. They tie into a satellite and confirm that there's been an explosion at Rex's location. Meanwhile, Rex tells Santos to go to the base with another squad but to tell his superiors that Rex and Esther are dead. When Rex says he's going in on his own, Esther insists on going with him. They get a call from Gwen but Rex tells Esther to ignore it rather than give away their continuing existence.
Shapiro concludes that the traitor gave Rex away and tells Noah to run the trace. As Noah goes to work, Charlotte goes to a file cabinet and takes out a hidden pack of explosives. She puts it in her handbag and then casually sets it on the desk next to Shapiro and Noah. As she walks out and goes down the hallway, she runs into Sandra and tells her that Shapiro needs her. Noah traces the phone and realizes that it's Charlotte's number. When Sandra comes over and asks why Shapiro wanted her, Shapiro glances at the handbag and realizes what's happening... just as it explodes. Outside, Charlotte gets away in the confusion.
Jack and Oswald get to the restaurant and Gwen tells them about the explosion that apparently killed the rest of their team. She snaps at Oswald and reminds Jack that with the blood bags destroyed, he's the only source of mortal blood on the planet.
The two teams break into the facilities on opposite of the globe, killing any guards they come across. While Rex tries to find a way down into the pit, he suggests that Esther stay above. She refuses and he jokingly refuses to thank her for all her help. Meanwhile, Oswald warns that there'll be guards all the way in. When Gwen condemns him, he points out that they're killing people. As they try to work out a way in through the perimeter, Gwen gets a call from Rhys.
Rhys and Andy get into the ward and find Geraint. While Rhys passes on his family's love, a nurse comments that Geraint is the lucky one. She shows Andy a young girl who was brought in and no one has claimed her or even discovered her name. The nurse tells them that Geraint will be burned with the others in ten minutes at the end of the shift. As she goes, Andy sits with the girl.
Jack finds a box of explosives, recognizes the lettering from his time in the Boxer Rebellion, and tells Oswald that he's glad he's there with them.
The Mother spots the intruders on the security monitors and tells Jilly that she'll be meeting the creator. Jilly is surprised to see that Oswald is with Jack and Gwen. The trio comes down on the freight elevator and finds the Mother and her security guards waiting for them. Oswald says that it's about him, not Jack, but the Mother says that he's not relevant. Upon hearing that, Oswald disagrees and says that now at the very end, he's very relevant. He removes his coat and reveals that he has wired himself with explosives, and tells the Mother that he plans to make sure she's still inside. Jack says that they have the advantage, but the Cousin calls from Buenos Aires and informs them that he has the advantage since he's captured Rex and Esther. He threatens to shoot Esther and Rex tells him to threaten him instead.
Jack steps forward and says he has the most powerful thing of all, steps out onto the catwalk, and cuts his finger to release several drops of his blood. The Blessing sucks up the blood and Jack tells the others that it wants his mortal blood. As Gwen and Jack stare into the Blessing, they both have their souls revealed. Gwen says she feels the guilt of a working mother but is okay with that. Jack sees all of his lives before him and realizes they're not so bad. Jilly points out that they've made the mistake of wiring the world's biggest bastard up with explosives and brought him there to see his soul. Oswald says that he can see his every sin and staggers, but then recovers and admits that he's accustomed to sin.
Jack explains that the world has been turning for over four billion years and that there are untold secrets beneath the surface. He admits that he has no idea what is really going on and Gwen says it might be the most terrestrial thing of all.
The Cousin explains that the Blessing transmits a morphic field around the planet, binding humanity together. They fed it Jack's blood, the blood of an immortal, and it copied it as a new template and fed it out to humanity. Jack speculates that the Blessing thought it was being attacked so it offered immortality as a gift. Rex asks why the Families want to give immortality to humanity, and the Mother explains that they can rebuild the world to their specifications, eliminating the poor and the weak. With the governments in chaos, the Families can step in and take control, deciding who lives, where, and why. Jilly agrees, saying that she's dealt with the rich and the powerful and that like it's wading in sewage. The Families sent the emails to draw jack out into the open and dispose of him. However, now Jack is the only mortal and he can send it his blood to make the world mortal as well.
As Jack prepares to cut himself, the Mother and the Cousin laugh. They tell everyone that due to polar dynamics, Jack's blood must simultaneously enter both ends of the Blessing. Without the spare blood lost in the explosion, there's nothing jack can do. The Mother tells her men to kill Jack and tells Oswald to blow himself up if he wants, but it will make no difference.
Rex yells for everyone to listen to him. He cuts his finger and holds it up, and the blood inside of him flows into the blessing. As both facilities shake, Rex explains that they transfused Jack's blood into him and put his blood into the blood bags. The Families never knew that they destroyed the wrong blood, and brought Rex to exactly where he wanted to go.
Rex dares the soldiers to shoot him, since it will splatter the blood into the Blessing. The Mother says that Jack and Rex will both die as the Blessing takes every drop. Jack says that he's lived long enough and calls to Rex. Rex says that he's married and they both step toward the Blessing. Gwen realizes that Jack will never kill himself and prepares to shoot him. He thanks her for her help and turns toward the Blessing. Before Rex can unleash his blood, the Cousin shoots Esther in the chest. He points out that if Rex goes through with the plan, Esther will die. They can bring her back with their infinite resources, but if only if they spare the Blessing. Rex asks Jack what he should do, but Gwen tells him to carry on. She says that she's seen what happens when Oswald chooses who lives and who dies, and insists that no one should have that power. Oswald points out that she'll kill everyone and admits that she's magnificent.
Gwen shoots jack in the chest and his blood spurts out and into the Blessing. In Buenos Aires, Rex rips the bandage from his chest and lets Jack's blood flow out of him. Around the world, the Category Ones all die for good. Rhys places his phone next to Geraint so Mary can say goodbye. Andy watches as the unidentified girl quietly dies.
Gwen runs to jack and confirms that he's dead. As she turns to go, Jilly runs for the elevator. The Mother tries to go after her but Oswald grabs her and tells Gwen to run. As she does, she sees Jack come back to life.
As the Cousin tries to leave, Rex gets up and throws him into the pit.
Realizing that Jack is immortal again, she steps out of the elevator. When Jilly takes it up, Gwen goes back and fights her. As Jack's wound heals, Oswald sees it and yells that he's finally seen a miracle. Gwen knocks out Jilly, grabs jack, and heads up in the elevator. Meanwhile, Oswald screams that he'll soon be in Hell and chasing his victim, Susie, forever and ever. He holds onto the Mother and triggers the explosives. As they reach the surface, Gwen and Jack run. Jilly runs after them but trips, and the flames from the explosion sweep over her.
Santos and his squad arrive and get Rex and Esther out.
On the other side of the world, Gwen wonders if she's killed Rex and Esther.
In Buenos Aires, the EMTs do what they can for the two CIA agents.
Later, Rhys, Gwen, Jack, Rex, and Charlotte attend the service for Esther. Charlotte's sister Sarah is there where her two daughters.
Jilly goes to a park and the Blue Eyed Man finally meets her. Jilly asks what she should do since she has nothing left and she's on the run. The Blue Eyed Man invites her to work for the Three Families and start again. When Jilly wonders why she should, the Blue Eyed Man explains that they almost succeeded and Miracle Day was only a trial run for Plan B. He asks if she's interested and walks away. After a moment, Jilly goes after him.
At the funeral, Charlotte offers her condolences to Rex. As she leaves, Gwen wonders why the Blessing couldn't have spared Esther's life as she died in front of it. Jack points out that UNIT has sealed the sites forever and no one can reach them. Rex asks if they'll be staying but then receives a call from the CIA. They have deciphered Noah's software from the explosion and learned the phone number of the leak. Rex realizes that it belongs to Charlotte and runs after her. Realizing that she's onto him, Charlotte draws a gun and shoots him in the chest. CIA agents shoot her down and Jack tells everyone to clear the area. They go to Rex's side and Jack tells Gwen that there's nothing they can do. However, Rex comes back to life, gasping for air with his wound healed, and wonders what Jack's blood did to him.
