John Carter teaser trailer crash lands online

Movies - Movie News

A twinkly, special effects-laden first teaser trailer for Disney’s sci-fi John Carter has landed online.

An odd hybrid of low-key music cues and sheeny visuals, Carter looks entirely unique, fusing high camp with the promise of soaring excitement.

As the titular hero, Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) seems to have raided the playbox for an old He-Man outfit (nippletastic!), but pairing that campy costume with a steely glare (and a few layers of grub) ensures he makes for a potentially winning lead.

Based on the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Carter follows the eponymous hero, who’s mystically transported to Mars after collapsing on Earth.

There, he discovers he has superhuman powers – which is handy considering he’s just landed in the middle of a Martian war.

This first teaser really is a tease. Its Middle Eastern garb recalls the underwhelming Prince Of Persia, but the special effects look truly stunning.

It's a bit too early to tell if this is going to be as good as it thinks it is, but those early signs are definitely promising.

Check out the trailer for yourself…

John Carter opens 9 March 2012.
