First things first, though. Since before this new sequel went into production, Stallone was promising that a highlight of The Expendables 2 would be a knock-down, drag-out fistfight between his character, Barney Ross, and Van Damme's bad guy character not coincidentally named Vilain. A chunk of that action scene has been posted online at the film's official Facebook page. The posting was done to mark the amassing of more than 45,000 'Likes' and 5,500 'Shares' of a "Huzzah, we're the number one movie in America" post on Monday.
The sequel debuted theatrically last Friday and performed well over the weekend. Though it didn't quite live up to initial projections for its opening frame, The Expendables 2 will likely perform well enough overall to bring about yet another installment defined by explosions, human growth hormone, ass-kicking, facelifts, and gunfire.
Prior to The Expendables 2's arrival, producer Avi Lerner revealed that The Expendables 3 has locked down Nicolas Cage to join the ensemble. Additionally, the creative team is hoping to recruit Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, and Clint Eastwood. While, with the exception of Eastwood, there's some possibility that these guy will join returning castmembers like Stallone and Terry Crews, any new additions won't be sharing the screen with septuagenarian Chuck Norris.
The seventy-two year old roundhouse-kicker appears in a single scene of this sequel during which he improbably defeats a whole army, but he won't be reprising the role of Booker in another actioner. Speaking with Access Hollywood at the premiere of The Expendables 2, Norris answered a question about his future involvement, saying, "Nope. Just number two. This is it for me. Oh, yeah. This is very special. Just to be able to do the film with guys I've known for many, many years. To get a chance to get in and fight with them, it was a lot of fun. Plus getting a chance to meet Terry Crews, who I hadn't met before. And Jason Statham, whom I hadn't met before. It was fun just to do that."
