The Expendables 2 arrives in theaters nationwide, and with that sequel having stoked the fires of America's love of sixty-six year-old action stars doing action star things, Lionsgate capitalized on that with the first trailer for The Last Stand starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, it's Stallone's turn with this trailer debut for Bullet to the Head.
Here, he plays Jimmy Bobo (a fine addition to the list of Stallone character names that includes John Spartan, Lincoln Hawk, and Raymond Tango), a New Orleans hitman/ambiguously defined fixer who goes on the warpath when his partner is unceremoniously knifed in a bar. Bobo's joined on his quest for vengeance by Sung Kang as Taylor Kwon, an NYPD cop who also witnessed his partner's murder at the hands of the same dude. The trailer manages to roll in a lot of cliches, what with the revenge plot and the mismatched duo jokes between Stallone and Kang.
But hey, axe fight! Watch it here thanks to IGN.
Originally titled Headshot, Bullet to the Head is actually based on French comic book Du Plomb Dans La Tete by Alexis Nolent. The screenplay is written by Alessando Camon, along with director Walter Hill.
While the trailer might not get your goat, the involvement of Hill is promising. The guy directed The Warriors, 48 Hrs., The Driver, Last Man Standing, Streets of Fire, and even Brewster's Millions. This represents his first feature film since Undisputed a decade ago.
Stallone is in pummeling mode, and it's safe to say that the same if true of erstwhile Drogo Jason Momoa and probably Kang too, even though his character seems the most level-headed. The cast also includes Sarah Shahi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christian Slater, and Brian Van Holt.
Bullet to the Head is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 1, 2013.
