Karl Urban Strikes a Pose in the Final 'Dredd' One-SheetKarl Urban Strikes a Pose in the Final 'Dredd' One-Sheet

The final theatrical one-sheet for this Fall's Dredd has arrived to pimp the second attempt at bringing the Judge to screens.  Unlike much of the other promotional material, this one has Karl Urban's grimacing Dredd looking like an over the top authoritarian nightmare.

Created by Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner in the pages of British comic book sci-fi vessel 2000 AD, Judge Joseph Dredd is actually an amusingly horrifying figure, an aggressive, violent dispenser of black and white justice with the ability to execute whomever he pleases without due process in the squalor of a sprawling dystopian hellhole.  He's sort of the scariest possible version of the hardassed cop, and the system supports his brutal style of policing.

This poster sort of alludes to that, with Urban looking like some sort of superhero/warlord presiding over a city burning to the ground.

We've seen a stark teaser poster, as well as a San Diego Comic-Con motion poster, but this is definitely the most comic book-y bit of business from Dredd so far.

Here's the official synopsis for Dredd:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets.  The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner.  Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation.  A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma and her ruthless clan.  When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire.  With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Urban stars as Dredd, with Olivia Thirlby as his rookie sidekick and Lena Headey as criminal overlord Ma-Ma Madrigal.  Pete Travis directs from a screenplay by producer Alex Garland, who also scripted Sunshine and 28 Days Later.

Pick up your Rogue 3D Eyewear before Dredd hits theaters in 2D and 3D on September 21st.
