We've seen a few brief international teasers for the Taken sequel over the last couple of months, but this is the official domestic trailer, and it goes whole hog, introducing the new setting in Istanbul, where retired CIA Agent/current badass Bryan Mills is meeting up with his daughter and wife, once again played by Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen, respectively. Then we get the basic set-up, meeting the bereaved family of all those guys Mills killed last time. Then it's off to the races, with Grace on the run, Neeson dispensing beatdowns, and cars exploding.
There's nothing with the same quotable determination of Neeson's "particular set of skills" speech, but it is fun to hear him directing his daughter to use some of his extensive portable armory over the phone.

There's something so straightfoward about the approach with these films that is infectious. It's even in the title: Taken. Someone gets taken. Late-blooming action star then unequivocally decimates those who did the taking. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Pierre Morel, who directed the first film, isn't returning for the sequel. Producer and co-writer Luc Besson dipped into his stable of action directors, though, recruiting Transporter 3 and Colombiana helmer Olivier Megaton to handle directorial duties this time out. Besson again wrote the screenplay with Robert Mark Kamen. That's all well and good, but I'd wager audiences really only need one element to be consistent between these movies: Liam Neeson breaking every neck in his path.
Taken 2 arrives in theaters Stateside on October 8th, and it brings with it the simple rule that all bad guys should avoid messing with Neeson in any capacity if they want their necks to remain unbroken.
