Sony and MGM wisely decided to capitalize on the 40.7 million viewers watching the Opening Ceremonies Stateside with the first TV spot for Skyfall, the twenty-third adventure of Bond.
This thirty-second spot contains many of the same handsome shots featured in the teaser trailer, rightly showcasing the visual fireworks providing by nine-time Oscar-nominating cinematographer Roger Deakins. There's new stuff on display too, including a sorta first look at Javier Bardem as the mysterious villain, though it's really, really fast and not much more than the silhouette we've already seen. Most notably, the spot has a high note, as 007 executes a big leap on a train as it falls apart, followed by a dapper beat that is quintessentially, perfectly Bondian.
Both of this film's "Bond Girls" are present and accounted for in oddly hygienic contexts, with Naomie Harris shaving Bond's face and Berenice Marlohe hopping in the shower with the secret agent.
The film's cast also includes Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace, and Ben Whishaw as the new Q.
Sam Mendes step outside of his comfort zone here. The American Beauty, Away We Go, and Road to Perdition takes on some large scale action with Skyfall, working from a screenplay by John Logan, along with regular Bond contributors Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
Skyfall arrives in the colonies on normal and IMAX screens this November 9th.
