As you'd expect, most of the featurette's one-minute length is spent seeing various members of the cast firing automatic weapons, which is pretty much what The Expendables sequel will surely consist of. Here, though, you get to see someone calling "Cut," prompting the gunblasts to cease. There's also some footage of destruct-O-trucks with elaborate camera rigs, snippets from the film, and the sublime wonder of someone on set, probably an assistant director, declaring a lunch break, after which a wall will be duly blown up.
In case all of that's not enough, star and co-writer Sylvester Stallone also holds forth on what makes The Expendables special and how getting all these action veterans together is downright miraculous. Watch the featurette below or in high definition at Apple, where it debuted today.
Though he directed The Expendables two years ago, capping off a directorial resurgence following Rocky Balboa and Rambo, Stallone opted not to direct this time. He co-wrote the screenplay with Richard Wenk from a story by Wenk, Ken Kaufman, and David Agosto, but this time it's Simon West lording over all those spent rounds. West has a background in ridiculous action, having helmed Con-Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and The Mechanic remake.
The cast of bruisers includes Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, Randy Couture, Nan Yu, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The Expendables 2 arrives in theaters on August 17th, almost two years to the day after the first movie.
