Just a few weeks back, we reported on how Brazil's equivalent of the Federal Communications Commission have outed the supposed new images of the "PS3-400." Well, now it seems this unit is an actual product and it even has a few surprises up its sleeve.
According to VG247's sources, the PS3-4000 model will indeed have a flash-based 16GB version. It's supposed to take on Microsoft's 4GB Xbox 360 and its announcement "may be" accompanied by a huge price cut...with the entry-level unit coming in at a reasonable £99.
While this, in itself, is good news, the same source claims that Sony won't be unveiling this redesigned PS3 at Gamescom. It was originally planned by the electronics giant to have this as part of their Gamescom presser, but the source states that stock levels for the current PS3s are said to be too high to announce it straight away.
Obviously, while all these seem plausible, it's not official until Sony confirms it and chances are, they'll issue their standard, "we don't comment on rumors speculations" spiel that's the norm these days from most companies.
So, if true, are you ready to take the plunge? If you already have a PS3, will this convince you to get another? My main concern is how will that 16GB cope with games that need a mandatory install?
