In a deliberate invocation of real-life American crime couple Bonnie and Clyde, these two are named Benny and Claire. They're played by Jesse Bradford, of Flags of Our Fathers and Swimfan, and the great Lizzy Caplan, who you'll recognize from Party Down and Cloverfield. This first clip, which clocks in at just about a minute, is all Benny and Claire, as the couple, who live their mutual life in dire financial straits, have a brief discussion about the wisdom of using an extraterrestrial weapon for illegal activities. It ends on an adorable, underplayed gag, too.
The clip is here courtesy of the good folks at Bleeding Cool.
Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito directed the short, which was written by Eric Pearson, who also scripted the past One-Shots The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer. The first One-Shot not to star Clark Gregg as the deadpan Agent Phil Coulson is also the longest and most ambitious of Marvel's shorts, running roughly twelve minutes. Though the basic idea is Bonny and Clyde with a Chitauri gun, apparently there are several big turns crammed into those dozen minutes.
With the Son of Coul out of the game now, SHIELD will be represented here by Marvel newbie and outstanding character actor Titus Welliver, as well as Maximiliano Hernandez, whose Agent Sitwell showed up in The Consultant and very briefly in Thor and The Avengers.
If you weren't on hand to see the short at San Diego Comic-Con, fret not, for it will be included on The Avengers Blu-ray, hitting shelves this September 25th.
