All the stuff before the super-slick action kicks in feels like it was cut to ribbons in order to get some basic information about the premise into this clip, which finds Farrell's character, Quaid, looking to add spice to his life by visiting Rekall, a service that creates false memories for recreation. Since Quaid might just be a real futuristic spy whose noggin contains some very important info, the procedure doesn't go as planned.
Don't expect this section of the actual movie to play as quickly as what you see here, with John Cho's contribution to the film over and done after a few quick seconds of screen time.
The clip is here for your viewing pleasure under the auspices of the great and mighty Yahoo! Movies, the power of which causes even the strongest of men to tremble in fear.
Interestingly, a longer, unfinished version of this material was presented to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con last year, along with some other unfinished footage. This year, director Len Wiseman is back at the Con with another Total Recall panel, part of the Sony presentation on Friday.
This movie is, of course, a remake of Paul Verhoeven's typically unhinged 1990 Total Recall, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This version purports to hew closer to the original story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale by science fiction legend Philip K. Dick, but it remains to be seen whether Kurt Wimmer, James Vanderbilt, and Mark Bomback's screenplay is actually a more direct adaptation. Seems unlikely.
Regardless, Wiseman directs as Farrell steps into the lead role, facing off against a villain played by Walter White himself, Bryan Cranston. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel play Quaid's love interests, one a bad guy and the other a good guy, while support is provided by John Cho, Bokeem Woodbine, Bill Nighy, Will Yun Lee, and Ethan Hawke.
Total Recall arrives in theaters on August 3rd.
