Not only that, but del Toro himself shared some thoughts on the large-scale science-fiction spectacle, which pits 25-story tall robots, called Jaegers, against equally huge monsters known as Kaiju. Speaking with USA Today, the ever-enthusiastic wordsmith described seeing Jaegers and Kaiju in combat, saying, "It is almost like seeing a tornado clashing with a hurricane."
"I am an obsessive compulsive," he explained. "And I can tell you without any shadow of a doubt I am involved very deeply on everything, from the pin on the lapel of a jacket to which way the monster's eye slants. I am essentially a socially inept creature. I dedicate my entire life to this. This is what I do, this is what I live for."

The Comic-Con preview over at USA Today also promised that the Hall H panel, part of a Warner Bros. presentation that also includes The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Man of Steel, will provide the first look at a variety of Kaiju, which del Toro are all unique, with certain strengths and attributes directly suited to their environments.
Last week the studio debuted a Comic-Con exclusive Pacific Rim poster, and we also saw our first look at Hunnam and Kikuchi in the film. The very first image arrived online more than a month ago, but you can refresh your memory by clicking here.
Speaking of memory refreshers, check out the official synopsis:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi star alongside Idris Elba, while Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins Jr., and Diego Klattenhoff all provide support.
Pacific Rim is scheduled for theatrical release on July 12, 2013.
