SDCC 2012: 'The Expendables 2' Demands a Poster of its OwnSDCC 2012: 'The Expendables 2' Demands a Poster of its Own

San Diego Comic-Con goes down this week, and if you couldn't tell from all the nerd fumes in the air, then the recent Comic-Con exclusive posters for both Pacific Rim and The Hobbit: There and Back Again probably clued y'all in.  If giant robots and Halfling's Weed-smoking wizards are not your things for whatever reason, then perhaps a 65 year old man and a beret will grab you by the enthusiasm.

That's right.  The Expendables 2 is getting in the Comic-Con poster game.  As you'd expect, it contains many a tough-looking actor wielding unnervingly phallic guns, with Jason Statham registering as the alpha male by virtue of the gigantic gun he needs to wear sunglasses to fire safely.  While the musclebound dudes and phallic symbols are unsurprising for an Expendables poster, the beaten-up grindhouse aesthetic is a bit out of the ordinary.  It fits the gimmicky concept of these movies, as well as the "Let's blow some shit up" mentality, but I somehow doubt that The Expendables 2 will have even a fraction of the knowing B-movie glee as, say, Hobo With a Shotgun.

This poster, which will be handed out to Comic-Con attendees at the movie's panel this Thursday, debuted at the Hero Complex.

Okay, so Sly's keeping his posterior out of the director's chair on this one, leaving all that to Simon West, who previously directed the likes Con-Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and those remakes of When A Stanger Calls and The Mechanic.

Different direction, similar assembly of ass-kicking dudes.  Stallone leads the charge, along with cohorts Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Randy Couture, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean CLaude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis.

The Expendables 2 shows up in theaters on August 17th.
