Justice Takes A Potshot: New 'Dredd' Motion PosterJustice Takes A Potshot: New 'Dredd' Motion Poster

It's been a few weeks since the first theatrical trailer for Dredd first appeared, so now is as good a time as any for a new poster.  This is no ordinary poster, though.  It's a motion poster, complete with audio, so be sure to adjust the volume accordingly.

In addition to dropping a Dredd motion poster, distributor Lionsgate has also announced that the new take on Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner's futuristic lawman will screen at Comic-Con in San Diego next week.  The sneak peek will take place during Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11th at the Reading Cinemas (701 5th Ave.) in San Diego's downtown Gaslamp District.  Karl Urban, who stars as the eponymous judge, will be on hand to introduce the screening with the proper pomp and circumstance.

Urban, who you'll recognize from The Lord of the Rings films and Star Trek, is the second actor to play the 2000 A.D. character, following Sylvester Stallone's turn in overblown 1995's Judge Dredd.  In this stripped-down take on the character, the sprawling metropolis of Mega-City One is in the grip of a drug epidemic, with seemingly everyone using a drug called Slo-Mo that slows down time.  Dredd and a rookie Judge end up locked in the high-rise where Slo-Mo is manufactured with the drug lord on the top floor, leaving them no choice but to fight upwards against enemies on all sides, The Raid-style.

Anyways, here's the motion poster, thanks to official site Judgement Is Coming.

So with the reliably great Urban wearing Dredd's helmet for the entire runtime, the supporting cast whose faces you'll actually see include Olivia Thirlby as the new recruit who ends up by his side and Lena Headey as crime boss Ma-Ma Madrigal.  Other actors showing up in the movie include Domhnall Gleeson, Jason Cope, Langley Kirkwood, and Santi Scinelli.

Pete Travis directs from a screenplay by Alex Garland, the novelist behind The Beach (a way, way better book than a movie, if you were curious) who wrote both 28 Days Later and Sunshine for director Danny Boyle.

Still plenty of time to pick up some Rogue 3D Eyewear before Dredd hits theaters nationwide on September 21st.
