Marvel Reschedules Its Mysterious Summer 2014 MovieMarvel Reschedules Its Mysterious Summer 2014 Movie

Does anyone else feel like Marvel Studios and Disney are getting all their ducks in a row before Comic-Con next week, when they'll hopefully make some big announcements?  We are talking about the organization that cast Mark Ruffalo in The Avengers insanely quick-like in order to have the full roster onstage in Hall H.  While the Marvel gets everybody fired up for the inevitable Iron Man 3 panel, the studio has also rescheduled its mysterious summer 2014 release from April to August.

Specifically, the as-yet unknown movie has moved from May 16, 2014 to August 1, 2014.  With Captain America 2, directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, set for April 4, 2014, that leaves a Marvel-less May in 2014.  Typically, early May is the company's stomping ground, and has seen successful launches for both Iron Man movies, Thor, and, most notably, The Avengers.  Considering the predilection towards May releases, it doesn't seem entirely unlikely that the Captain America sequel might get kicked back a month or so in order to hit during the favored month.

With Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 scheduled to arrive in May and November of next year, followed by Cap's next outing in 2014, nobody knows just what the second movie of 2014 will be.  That's not entirely true, though.  Latino Review is reporting with enviable certainty that Marvel will announce that it's Guardians of the Galaxy.

We first learned that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie was in development last August, a rumor confirmed as fact shortly thereafter last September.  Created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan and in 1969 and revived in 2008, the Guardians are a more obscure band of intergalactic time travelers led by Vance Astro, a cryogenically forzen astronaut who uses Captain America's shield to defend the universe from aliens threats in the 31st and 21st Century.  The team also includes a talking anthropomorphized dog and a raccoon named, appropriately enough, Rocket Raccon.

It makes plenty of sense.  Marvel's successfully gone cosmic with Thor and the Chitausi invasion of The Avengers.  A Guardians of the Galaxy movie would pave the way for a 2015 The Avengers sequel that features the villain seen in that first film's end credits Easter Egg.  The Guradians and their signature bad guys, the Badoon, traveling back a thousand years to contemporary Earth would serve a solid set up, further establishing the more sci-fi trapppings of Marvel's cinematic universe

Expect an announcement at Comic-Con next week.
