Mad Max: Fury Road has begun shooting on location in Namibia, with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley tweeting a picture of herself from the set, alongside co-stars Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough and Adelaide Clemens.

The quartet play a group of wives in the forthcoming reboot, while Tom Hardy will star as the titular road warrior, alongside Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult. Plot details remain sketchy, although it is thought that the new film will not follow on from the events of the original series.

The latest news from the project is that director George Miller will not be shooting in 3D as had originally been planned, with the effect to be added in post-production. Presumably with all the upheaval that has surrounded the project over the past few years, Warner are feeling a little cautious when it comes to budget.

"We are doing 3D on Fury Road – we are shooting with real 3D cameras,” said Miller back in 2010. “Seven years ago we were going to shoot in 3D but the technology in cinemas wasn’t geared for it then, but I always loved 3D or stereo." Now it seems he won't get to play with the cameras, but will at least get to incorporate the effect later in the process.

Mad Max: Fury Road has yet to receive an official release date, but we'd estimate an arrival in late 2013, or early 2014. And given there's already a script in place for another sequel, don't be surprised if this franchise is hanging around for a good few years to come.
