The rebooted Marvel Comics origin story The Amazing Spider-Man arrives in regular 2D, 3D, and jumbo-sized IMAX 3D tonight at midnight, leaving Sony Pictures with just a scant few hours to continue pimping the picture like mad. The studio is doing so not with yet another in the long procession of official clips and featurettes. Instead, the latest cinematic incarnation of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's wall-crawling hero has one last one sheet poster and a pretty cool promotional emotional image of Spidey swinging in the moonlight, comic book style.
While many of the billboards and posters selling
The Amazing Spider-Man have stuck to the model of the previous
Spider-Man movies with surprising consistency, this one sidelines the hero, making him a reflection in the eye of The Lizard, the nefarious villain who starts out as decent guy Dr. Curt Connors, played by
Rhys Ifans. It lets the audience know that though this movie is telling a very familiar story, it's doing so with a bad guy we haven't seen onscreen yet.

Andrew Garfield takes over as the newly less geeky Peter Parker, with Emma Stone as his main squeeze and intellectual equal Gwen Stacy. Ifans and Leary are supporting players, along with Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, and Chris Zylka.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters tomorrow, Tuesday, July 3rd.
