Jackson is playing a supporting role as Stephen, the loyal valet to villainous plantation owner Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The story takes place principally in the Antebellum South and follows Django, a freed slave played by Jamie Foxx. Django earns his freedom working with dentist and bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz, who teams with the hero first to track down a bounty, then to find the former slave's beloved wife, Broomhilda, played by Kerry Washington.
In addition to a single line from Jackson, there's also a sprinkling of new dialogue from DiCaprio as Candie, as well as some footage of him looking exceptionally pissed off. Even without any of the new material, though, this Django Unchained spot would be well worth it just for the exuberance and style that has characterized all the marketing for Tarantino's latest.
Anyways, here's the TV spot, thanks to Yahoo! Movies, where you can watch it in HD if you so desire.
The writer-director's love of Spaghetti Westerns was on display in his Kill Bill movies, especially Volume 2, but here he's actually getting into some proper period-era gunslinging. With the Western influence and the setting, Tarantino has been referring to the film as a "Southern." Call it whatever you want. You made Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, and the too frequently forgotten Death Proof.
We learned just last month that Jonah Hill is set to appear in an unspecified supporting role, alongside the likes of Walton Goggins, MC Gainey, Tom Savini, Tom Wopat, Don Johnson, Bruce Dern, James Remar, and Zoe Bell.
Django Unchained provides a welcome dose of violence and profanity to the holiday season on December 25th.
