The biggest draw for the Comic-Con crowd is undoubtedly the Marvel Studios presentation, and that's also the element we know the least about. Disney's announcement mentions that, in addition to head honcho Kevin Feige, special guests will be on hand. You can bet dollars to donuts that said guests will include some folks promoting the currently-filming Iron Man 3, perhaps even director Shane Black or castmembers like Robert Downey Jr. Previous Iron Man movies utilized the Con well, so expect something special, too. This could also be a forum for announcements regarding Thor 2, Captain America 2, that mysterious summer 2014 movie, or really anything in Marvel's future.
Moving on, the Disney panel will also a look at Sam Raimi's The Wizard of Oz prequel Oz: The Great and Powerful starring James Franco, with Raimi himself in attendance. To promote this year's stop-motion feature Frankenweenie, director Tim Burton will participate in a Q&A, and the animated movie Wreck-It Ralph will get some time in front of the videogame-loving crowd. Director Rich Moore, whose time on The Simpsons and Futurama ought to qualify him as a Comic-Con deity will be there, along with stars John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman.
Okay, here's the official announcement:
WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES will be hosting our Hall H Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 12 from 2:05pm – 3:05pm.
Q&A panel featuring the imaginative director of Frankenweenie Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland); A special look at the world of Oz The Great and Powerful with director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy); the illustrious voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-It Ralph, including John C. Reilly (Step Brothers), Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program) and director Rich Moore (The Simpsons).
MARVEL STUDIOS will be hosting its Hall H Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 14 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
Marvel Studios presents Iron Man 3. Join Producer Kevin Feige and special guests as they provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Notably absent is The Lone Ranger, director Gore Verbinski's massive theatrical update of the serialized Western avenger starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp. When we first learned that Disney would be bringing some thunder to the convention this year, it seemed reasonable to expect that the studio would use the opportunity to pimp its summer 2013 tentpole, especially since the movie will be in theaters by the time next year's Comic-Con rolls around. Not so, it seems.
