Red Band Clip: Badass Jackets for 'The Watch'Red Band Clip: Badass Jackets for 'The Watch'

Just a few days ago, we saw the very first official clip from The Watch, next month's comedy formerly titled Neighborhood Watch.  Despite the inclusion of Vince Vaughn urinating urinating in a soda can while Richard Ayoade praised his technique, that initial clip didn't quite convey the foul-mouthed, sex-obsessed preoccupations of the protagonists in this R rated sci-fi comedy.  Thankfully, the second clip is already online, and it goes red band so as to give a better feel for The Watch, up to and including Jonah Hill's doubtful explanation as to why the baritone from Boyz II Men had to quit music.

Vaughn, Ayoade, and Hill, along with Ben Stiller, star in the film as a quartet of disaffected suburban guys who start up a neighborhood watch patrol, ostensibly for protection but really just to flex some small amount of power and distract themselves from their emasculation.  When they end up in the middle of an alien plot to invade Earth, though, the four morons become our last hope.

The clip below, which can also be viewed in high definition at IGN, is from early in the Watch's tenure.  It features squabbling over a logo and, eventually, some bad language.

Just like he did in the first clip, Ayoade crushes it.  He's the odd man out, the one guy who the three other members look at like he's a little off.  Everybody sticks to the comedic types established in clip one, from Stiller's uptight control freak to Vaughn's fast-talking instigator, to Hill's strange, impressionable youngster.

These four anchor an ensemble that includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Billy Crudup, Nicholas Braun, Doug Jones, R. Lee Ermey, and the severely underrated Will Forte.  Everybody's here under the director of Hot Rod helmer and The Lonely Island trio member Akiva Schaffer.  They're speaking words written by Superbad cohorts Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg whilst playing out a story crafted by Jared Stern.

The Watch will offer non-Batman-related-shenanigans a week after The Dark Knight Rises, arriving on July 27th.
