2nd Trailer for Tim Burton's Stop-Motion 'Frankenweenie'2nd Trailer for Tim Burton's Stop-Motion 'Frankenweenie'

A second theatrical trailer for Frankenweenie is available to view, and taking a peek will give audiences a much better idea of just where the story goes.  Back in spring, we saw a first trailer for Tim Burton's stop-motion comedy introducing this latest refashioning of Mary Shelley's endlessly mutable novel Frankenstein.  Based on Burton's own 1984 live-action short, this black and white animated feature follows a young Victor Frankenstein in an anonymous American suburb who brings his beloved dog Sparky back from the dead with disastrous consequences.

Before he made Pee-wee's Big Adventure or became big deal director Tim Burton, the young Disney animator is said to have lost his job at Disney after the original short film so befuddled the studio that most folks didn't have a chance to see it until a special edition DVD of The Nightmare Before Christmas included it as a bonus feature a decade or more ago.

Anyways, if Dark Shadows seemed to catch certain newer tendencies from the director, this looks like pure, uncut old timey Burton.  The last time he worked in black and white was Ed Wood.  That film boasted a very visible love of cheesy old monster movies, and that same enthusiasm is on display in the trailer below, which you can view in high definition at Apple.  I mean, look at the teacher who is so clearly modeled on Vincent Pryce.  It takes you right back to the days of Edward Scissorhands.

Burton worked on the story for the original short with Leonard Ripps, but this screenplay is the work of John August, who previously collaborated with the director on Big Fish, Corpse Bride, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie Tahan provides Frankenstein's voice, while Martin Landau, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Tom Kenny, and Robert Capron also lend their vocal talents to the proceedings.

Frankenweenie hits regular 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on October 5th, leaving no shortage of time to pick up your own Rogue 3D Eyewear.
