Square Enix has just announced the "new" Lara Croft in Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
In rather pleasant news, they just didn't cast another nameless sexy bombshell to fill in Lara's tomb raiding boots. Instead, they've cast British actress Camilla Luddington (Californication) as both the voice and performance actress for the iconic videogame vixen.
Luddington, who's set to join the cast of HBO's True Blood in its fifth season, is also set to appear in Nerd HQ and the San Diego Comic-Con Tomb Raider panels where she joins the developers as they talk about the reboot.
David Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics, had this to say regarding the casting.
This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right...This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.
I have to admit, I like that Crystal Dynamics is going with an actual actress this time around. It also helps that she ain't hard on the eyes either, no?
Tomb Raider is set for release on March 5, 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
