Assassin's Creed's combat system has always been a bit of a sticking point round these parts. I'm aware of at least one OXM regular - let's call him "Rummy" - who thinks the base melee Ubisoft pegged out in the first game is peerless. But I've always felt things too easily get bogged down in repetition, thanks mostly to that all-powerful counterkill. As you'd expect, Assassin's Creed 3's creative director Alex Hutchinson has a fair few thoughts on the subject.
