International 'The Watch' Trailer: The Last Men for the JobInternational 'The Watch' Trailer: The Last Men for the Job

20th Century Fox has released an international trailer for The Watch

It doesn't convey the full-scale verbal filth in which the R-rated comedy will indulge (check out May's red band trailer for a sense of just how sophomorically obsessed with sex and bodily function the four leads are), but it does recycle several good bits from previous trailers and gives some background on each of the four characters whose imbecilic neighborhood watch alliance becomes the last line of defense against an alien invasion.

Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade, and Vince Vaughn star as the heroes of this comedy with a bit of light sci-fi.  The first teaser introduced just how delusional they are collectively, but this full-length international trailer goes into each one a little bit more.  Stiller's typically high-strung but apparently the most normal, Vaughn's an irrepressible fast-talker in the Vaughn-mode, Ayoade is a square Brit with sexy Asian ladies on his mind, and Hill's a dangerous psychotic who keeps an arsenal under his mattress.

The alien invasion concept, as well as the presence of Vaughn and particularly Stiller, might give an impression that The Watch will be a formulaic, more or less family friendly comedy that plays it safe.  The rating is a tipoff that this won't be the case, but the direction of Akiva Schaffer promises something stranger and wilder.  Schaffer, a member of the Lonely Island comedy trio with Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone, co-directed many of the SNL Digital Shorts over the last seven years, and also helmed Hot Rod.  Oh, and the screenplay here is by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, working from a story by Jared Stern.

In addition to the central quartet, the cast includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Will Forte, Billy Crudup, Nicholas Braun, R. Lee Ermey, and Doug Jones.  The movie arrives in theaters on July 27th.

Oh, and here's a new domestic poster, thanks to The Playlist:
