Kojima: There Will Be a Metal Gear Solid 5 with the New FOX Engine

Games - Games

Hideo Kojima, head of Kojima Productions and the gaming legend credited for creating the Metal Gear franchise, has confirmed that there will be a Metal Gear Solid 5.

In an interview with French magazine IG Magazine (June-July issue), Kojima confirmed the game's existence and adds that it will use the studio's all-new FOX Engine.

There will be a MGS5 with the new Fox Engine, but what we showed was not the in-game play, or something like that..It was only a demo that we had developed internally and that we released because the lighting and all interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.

Aside from that confirmation, details are scarce; although Kojima points out that stealth and infiltration will once again be an integral part of the game. He also points out that he liked the social interaction he saw in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so there's a good chance we might see something similar in Metal Gear Solid 5.

About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things...There will be much question of infiltration, espionage and convince people to give you "a favor" in the last MGS. I liked the idea of social interactions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution but we'll see. And if I was saying, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door I carve up into pieces. So better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.

Chalk that last statement up to iffy translation, but if I had to wager a guess, it would mean a female PR officer is standing behind the door and Kojima jokingly states that if he divulges anything about MGS5, then said female officer will carve him up into pieces.

While this might not be as big of a shocker as most people might think -- except those who believe Konami hates money for some reason -- it's still a whole lot better to hear Kojima confirm it outright, no?

I think it's important to point that seeing as MGS5 seems to be very early on in production, does this mean it's slated for next-gen platforms? Given our consoles' lifecycles, I'd assume it is.

Does this mean "Project Ogre" is a codename for Metal Gear Solid 5? What else can Kojima do with the franchise he hasn't done yet? Also, will he still be the game's director or will he finally pass the reins to someone else?

Speculate away!
