The Judge Abides: New 'Dredd' Behind the Scenes ImagesThe Judge Abides: New 'Dredd' Behind the Scenes Images

Three new behind the scenes images from Dredd serve to highlight just how surreal the process of making a movie really is, what with the pretending and all.  The week before last, we saw an effective minimal poster for the science fiction action movie, with Karl Urban shrouded by darkness.

This week, though, there are some brightly lit set photos that have Urban and some other Judges in full gear with casually dressed crew members hanging out around them.  So read on to see Dredd's futuristic judges and a guy wearing green shorts and slip-on shoes.

The character of Judge Dredd has been around for 35 years, patrolling Mega City One and acting as judge, jury, and executioner without hesitation.  Created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Joseph Dredd first appeared in the pages of British sci-fi comic 2000 AD.  These new behind the scenes look at the second attempt to bring Dredd to the screen debuted at 2000 AD Wordpress

Behold, Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby as Judges Dredd and Anderson.  Green shorts guy, too!

In October of last year, word that director Pete Travis has been locked out of the editorial process kindled fears that Dredd would do the character as little justice as the disappointing Judge Dredd in 1995.  Producers were quick to issue a statement clarifying that all was well behind the scenes and that screenwriter-producer Alex Garland would not, in fact, be overseeing editing and seeking a directorial credit on the film.

Garland, the novelist responsible for The Beach and the screenwriter who collaborated with director Danny Boyle on 28 Days Later and Sunshine, produces with Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.

Karl Urban stars as Dredd, with Olivia Thirlby as the female lead and Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey as criminal mastermind Ma-Ma Madrigal.

Dredd arrives in theaters on September 21st.
