'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' Clip Takes the Train to Gettysburg'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' Clip Takes the Train to Gettysburg

A new clip from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is virtually all-action, as the sixteenth president of these United States and his buddy Will Johnson defend a train from a bunch of zombies vampires.  Benjamin Walker does a lot of twirling around that ax/firearm that has become so familiar throughout the mashup movie's marketing, but Anthony Mackie shares the spotlight, killing many a snarling, anonymous bloodsucker and even swinging the ax himself in a violent, speed-ramping pas de deux.

There's the briefest setup for all this expensive-looking action, as Lincoln pores over a map and declares the importance of a train to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Since even the most lackadaisical history student could quote the first few lines of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, it's basically just a shout-out to that speech and the famous Civil War battle that preceded it by several months.  The clip is all about killing vampires on a train, though.  The historical invocation is really just a way of reminding us that this isn't The Lost Boys, right?

The clip below made its debut at Yahoo! Movies, where it can be viewed in high definition.

Here's hoping that the ADR on Mackie's "We've got to keep them away from the locomotive" is smoother in the actual film.

He doesn't have a line, but in the very beginning you can briefly see Jimmi Simpson as Lincoln's longtime friend Joshua Fry Speed.  It is probably too much to hope that Speed will stab a vampire with a fork in the movie.*  This, I believe, is our first look at Simpson in the film, and with a bit more than a week until the release, it's odd that we've not yet laid eyes on Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln.  She's definitely a part of the cast, though, along with Rufus Sewell, Alan Tudyk, Dominic Cooper, Marton Csokas, and Robin McLeavy.

Timur Bekmambetov follows up Wanted with his second American feature here.  Tim Burton produces, once again working with his Dark Shadows screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the screenplay based on his sophomore mashup novel.

Ready your Rogue 3D Eyewear for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter's June 22nd release.

*Simpson is familiar to fans of It's Always Sunny in Philadephia as one of the thoroughly nasty McPoyle siblings, the one who exacts vengeance on Charlie with a well-timed fork-stabbing.
