This is it. This is your silver medal.
In an interview with IGN, Miyamoto stated, “I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation.”
This is breaking away from the handheld model that Nintendo has built in the past. With multiple iterations of various generations such as the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS, it comes as quite the surprise that Nintendo is just going to stick with the current 3DS.
Instead of advancing the hardware or making aesthetic changes to the 3DS, Miyamoto said Nintendo is always thinking about what’s next. Even when questioned about the addition of a second circle pad in future 3DS models, Miyamoto referred to the gyroscopic feature to supplement that need.
Although Miyamoto did say that he was more interested in focusing on the next handheld, he made it clear that they were not anywhere near finished with the development of the 3DS. The hardware hasn’t been pushed to its limits and 3D gaming is still in infancy. Thankfully, this means gamers can relax the grip on their wallets and just enjoy the 3DS for what it currently is.
