When a studio makes a giant summer movie, you can bet your ass that said studio synergize cross-logistical business platforms.  I don't actually know what that means, but I know that huge comic book movies beget many toys and merchandising tie-ins.  Right now, the 2012 Licensing Expo is happening in Las Vegas right now, allowing studios to hock upcoming properties to toymakers, fast food chains, and the like.  In order to get licensees on board, Warner Bros. put some costumes from the Superman reboot Man of Steel on display, giving a better feel for the sartorial styles of Krypton.

As you'd expect, the new Superman outfit worn by Henry Cavill was there, and new pictures give our closest examination yet of its kinda-sorta chainmail texture.  Also present was the regal costume of Superman's Kryptonian dad, Jor-El.  We previously saw set photos of Russell Crowe hanging out and smoking a cigarette wearing this, but there's more detail here.

Between the styles favored by Kal-El and Jor-El, though, we seem to have our first look at the costume worn by Antje Traue as Faora, the villainous sidekick to principal bad guy General Zod.  The menacing angles and dissimilarity to Jor-El's duds suggest this definitely isn't the outfit worn by Superman's mom; it definitely looks like something only a villain would wear.

All six of the images below are courtesy of Coming Soon, and if you head over there, you can check out a ton of promotional images from the Expo, including stuff for Iron Man 3, A Good Day to Die Hard, After Earth, RoboCop, RIPD, Les Miserables, Fast and Furious 6, and Rio 2.

In March, costume designer Michael Wilkinson confirmed that in this new take on Superman's origin, the familiar red and blue costume is a product of Krypton rather than the work of Martha Kent.  He also discussed the "Neo-Medieval" take on Kal-El's home planet, an approach that's especially evident in Jor-El's costume above, but hints of which also feature in the decidedly more futuristic Faora costume.

With a story by executive producer Christopher Nolan and his Batman Begins co-writer David S. Goyer, Man of Steel is directed by Zack Snyder, the man behind Warner Bros. comic adaptations 300 and Watchmen

Snyder's cast is led by Henry Cavill, who faces off against Michael Shannon as General Zod and Traue as Faora.  Amy Adams is the new Lois Lane, with Laurence Fishburne as Daily Planet Editor in Chief Perry White.  Crowe and Ayelet Zurer play Kal-El's biological parents, while Diane Lane and Kevin Costner play the Kents.  Also in the cast are Richard Schiff, Harry Lennix, Jadin Gould, and Christopher Meloni.

Man of Steel is just a hair over a year away, arriving in theaters nationwide on June 14, 2013.
