The most interesting thing about the proverb "you can't polish a turd" is that it needed to be said. Was anybody ever in any doubt as to the polish-bearing potential of the average lump of faeces? Seriously. I can think of any number of unpolishable objects I'd attempt to polish first. Scuffed clingfilm. Cracked phone screens. Door handles that are actually large pieces of fungus. Clichés. No, you can't polish a cliché either, but that doesn't seem to stop game developers trying.
