The Lizard Speaks: Two New 'The Amazing Spider-Man' FeaturettesThe Lizard Speaks: Two New 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Featurettes

Three weeks out from the domestic release of the reboot, Sony Pictures continues saturating the popular culture with The Amazing Spider-Man marketing materials.  There are all those TV spots showing up everywhere, along with other, more specialized bits of salesmanship, like last week's appearance of two clips and a featurette.  Today there's more, as two new featurettes have landed online, examining the character of Dr. Curt Connors as well s the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

First up is the Connors-focused featurette, which is the more action-packed and revealing of the two.  It's got some standard-issue talking head interview snippets with director Marc Webb, Andrew Garfield, and Rhys Ifans, but the meat for fans is new footage of the elusive Lizard.  Not only does Lizzy toss Spider-Man around plenty, but he speaks.  Yep, Ifans delivers a few digitally enhanced line readings when Connors is in full-blown reptile mode.

See for yourself:

Unsure about the character's motivation once he's actually the Lizard.  This featurette really hammers home that the Doctor is looking to regrow his arm as his defining feature, with numerous bits from the film doing heavy lifting to confirm Ifans' assertion, "He's not a villain, as such.  He's just a guy who wants his arm back."  Once he's a snarling seven foot-tall monster, though, he apparently finds enough solace in his reptilian nature that he thinks everyone should get Lizarded.

Far clearer is the relationship between Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker, as examined briefly in this video, courtesy of Coming SoonEmma Stone discusses Gwen's attraction to super-cute fellow science nerd Parker, and you can see the two flirting and whatnot in most endearing fashion.

Sony is selling the reboot aggressively, but I'm not sure that they've managed to overcome the skepticism about another Spider-Man origin story just a decade after Sam Raimi's take on the character proved so popular.  Since Batman Begins set a new standard in 2005, we've gotten increasingly used to reboots, but The Amazing Spider-Man isn't quite like, say Christopher Nolan's Bat-movies or The Incredible Hulk.  While Spider-Man 3 has taken a lot of heat, the first two films were huge parts of the ongoing comic book movie boom and still have a whole lot of goodwill.

Anyways, Spidey gets his first 3D adventure with The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3rd.
