Nintendo is a company well regarded for its family- and child-friendly policy and takes great care to protect the well being of its users from online predators, cyberbullies and other ne'er-do-wells on the internet.
As Nintendo expands its social services with the introduction of a new Miiverse social platform for the Wii U, which has functions not unlike the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, Nintendo intends to retain the same level of user security as it has in the past.
One of the measures the Japanese company is taking to make sure its online service is safe for kids is to implement three layers of comment moderation.
Satoru Iwata says that any message posted on the Miiverse must pass through an automatic language filter, a human moderator review from Nintendo "human resources", and a peer review from the recipient of the message.
"I think 30 minutes should be acceptable," said Iwata, when he was asked how long the process would take.
While clearly a step up from Nintendo's Friend Code system for its previous consoles, the Wii U's social networking usability remains a far cry from offerings by its competitors.
