New 'Skyfall' Featurette: Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Suits?New 'Skyfall' Featurette: Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Suits?

Through Ian Fleming's original novels and more than twenty theatrical features, an unparalleled suavity and gentlemanly sophistication have always been part of James Bond's appeal.  Daniel Craig's take on the character may be the most stripped down – he's a blunt instrument, a man comfortable with brutal, shitkicking violence – but he still looks sharp in a suit.  The challenges of dressing one of the world's most famous fictitious lotharios is covered in a brand new video blog promoting Skyfall, the 23rd cinematic 007 adventure.

In the latest production featurette, costume designer Jany Temime discusses her approach to Bond's costumes.  It's not simple as slapping him in tuxedo.  Not only does Bond need to look inhumanely dapper, he needs to look that way while also being an unstoppable action machine.  Not only does he need to look invoke the classic, collective image of Bond, but he also needs to have a bit of 21st century cool, too.

See how Temime dealt with those challenges in creating Bond's sexy Tom Ford suits with this video from the ever-reliable 007.com.

Just a few weeks back, the first teaser trailer for Skyfall threw down, giving the sense that director Sam Mendes has a good shot at delivering the best entry so far in Craig's run as Bond.  Maybe it was just solid marketing, but that trailer promised a more stylish, substantial, and action packed movie than Quantum of Solace or even the much-lauded Casino Royale.

Mendes brings along nine-time Oscar-nominee Roger Deakins to serve as cinematograher on Bond's first digitally-shot movie, and as this costume design featurette show, Deakins knows how to frame Craig's silhouette for some potentially iconic images.

Once again, Judi Dench plays MI-6 head M, a role she's played since Pierce Brosnan first got his Bond on in Martin Campbell's GoldenEye.  Aside from Craig and Dench, though, the cast is pretty much all newbies, from Javier Bardem as the mysterious bad guy to Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe as the latest "Bond Girls."  Ben Whishaw shows up as the gadget guru Q, while Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace, and Albert Finney also play supporting roles.

Skyfall hits Stateside theaters on November 9th.
