When 13-year-old Rachel Crow made her shocking exit on the first season of Simon Cowell's American version of "X Factor," the typically unflappable judge promised the weepy teen that her ride was not over. Those pledges didn't immediately dry her tears or cushion the blow, but Cowell has made good on his vow in the form of now-14-year-old Crow's upcoming debut EP.
After finishing fifth, Crow will actually get music out before season one finisher Melanie Amaro, who is still working on her debut album. Crow's self-titled five-song EP will be released digitally on June 26 and feature songs produced by a number of veteran hitmakers, including Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie), Matt Squire (One Direction, 3OH!3) and Jonas Jeberg (The Wanted, Pussycat Dolls).
And, after showing off her preternaturally powerful, soulful pipes and bubbly personality on the show, Crow will also take a bow as a songwriter, thanks to her co-writing credit alongside Gad on the song "Mean Girls." Penned in three days in the studio, the lyrics "speak to rising above social pressures and celebrating individuality," according to a press release announcing the disc. "I really want ['Mean Girls'] to not only inspire kids who have been bullied, but I also hope to inspire the kids that do the bullying to stop that behavior," said Crow.
Crow, who has signed a talent deal with Nickelodeon that includes a recurring role on the new series "Fred: The Show," an appearance on the network's new game show "Figure It Out" and a cameo on an upcoming episode of "Big Time Rush" on July 2 will be hitting the road this summer as well. Opening for the lads in Big Time Rush on their Big Time Summer Tour, Crow will perform songs from the EP beginning on July 5, when the outing kicks off in Columbus, Ohio. A special edition of the EP will be sold at the tour dates.
The track listing for the EP is: "Mean Girls," "Rock With You" featuring Mann, "Lemonade," "My Kind of Wonderful" and "What a Song Can Do."
