Early in MacGruber, the titular throat-ripping special ops veteran assembles a group of hyper-masculine commandos to help him take down Dieter Von Cuntch, an arch-villain with control of a nuclear warhead. Once he's got his team of so-tough-they're-actually-homoerotic-caricatures together, though, MacGruber's incompetence kills them all. Had they survived, the ensuing movie would've looked a lot like The Expendables 2. Or a lot like this TV spot, anyways.
Check it out below to see Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger doing their thing.
Can we please declare a moratorium on allusions to the Terminator movies in anything involving Arnold Schwarzenegger? If they weren't worn out before Schwarzenegger's improbable tenure as California's Governor, he made sure to run them into the ground over that time. Add Terry Crews' "You're terminated" here to the "I'm back" featured in the theatrical trailer, and it's just too much stupidity.
Stallone wrote and directed 2010's The Expendables, and he's still a big behind-the-scenes force here, but directorial duties have been handed off to Simon West, the guy behind Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con-Air, and the recent remakes of The Mechanic and When a Stranger Calls.
The Expendables 2 blows shit up in theaters on August 17th.
