Another 'Prometheus' Featurette: The Finest Spaceship Money Can BuyAnother 'Prometheus' Featurette: The Finest Spaceship Money Can Buy

Prometheus is already playing in many a European theater, causing Americans who've been fretting over the film for months to curse their lack of Russian citizenship, but here in the States, we can while away the next week with some more promotion for the new Ridley Scott joint.  The latest in a long, long line of behind-the-scenes featurettes focuses on the Prometheus spacecraft itself.

This one includes new imagery of the ship, inside and out, as well as interview snippets with Scott's frequent production designer Arthur Max, actors Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, and the director himself.

While the Nostromo, the spaceship in Scott's classic Alien, was defined by its "used future" texture of an industrial, blue-collar setting, the Prometheus is something different.  There are echoes of the old ship in the interiors, but this new vessel is unmistakably a more high-end, a hugely expensive exploratory craft as opposed to an intergalactic semi truck.

The video is courtesy of a Prometheus-Verizon facebook page that also includes a countdown to the domestic release date, there for those who don't tolerate calendars.

Max has previously recreated the past for Scott with films like Gladiator, Robin Hood, Black Hawk Down, and American Gangster, but this represents the production designer's first venture into the future.  As many a Browncoat has noted, the exterior of Prometheus does resemble Serenity, the central craft from Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity, probably because both were meant to look like flying insects.  Still, though, this ship represents a whole lot more money, and that shows.

With the film hitting international theaters, reviews for Prometheus have started popping up online, though the embargo hasn't been lifted for many of your favorite critics and sites.  So after months of carefully calculated mystery from 20th Century Fox, we're getting a sense of just how the quasi-prequel delivers.  MOst reviews are keeping relatively spoiler-free, but still.

Prometheus hits theaters in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D next Friday, June 8th.
