Bekmambetov is the Russian director behind Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted, and his style appears to be intact, despite the journey back to the 19th Century for this film. The source material is the book of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith, which posits that Honest Abe's mother was killed by a vampire, and the 16th American President waged a one-man war against the bloodsuckers, who were secretly behind the Southern slave trade.
This trailer gives a bit more plot, some room for the villains and Abe's mentor to shine, and lots of bloodletting that looks designed for 3D gimmickery.
The unrated trailer made its debut at IGN today.
This film represents this summer's second collaboration between Tim Burton and Seth Grahame-Smith. The mashup novelist-turned-screenwriter wrote Burton's Dark Shadows, and he contributed to the screenplay for this one, along with executive producer Simon Kinberg. Burton serves as a producer on this film.
Benjamin Walker stars as Abraham Lincoln, and we've yet to see even a glimpse of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his wife, May Todd Lincoln. The cast also includes Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Robin McLeavy, John Rothman, and Jimmi Simpson.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hits theaters in 2D and 3D on June 22nd.
