Leonardo DiCaprio reunites with his Romeo + Juliet director to play Jay Gatsby, and the trailer holds off on introducing him, instead letting you hear his name and see one of his lavish parties first, just as it should be. Tobey Maguire narrates both the trailer and the film as Nick Carraway, and he's perfectly suited to the role. Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanan, and from the looks of this trailer, the character will be less vacuous; Daisy and Gatsby's romance looks more, well, romantic than in Fitzgerald's novel.
Anyways, you can view the trailer right here or head over Apple to watch in HD.
Just today we saw the first image of Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim, and he gets a line or two in the trailer. Joel Edgarton has his moment as Tom Buchanan here too, as does Jason Clarke as George Wilson (he gets a big dramatic tortured scream in there). Not much of Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson. Still, there's so much going on here that it's damn near overload anyways.
Just look at the costumes and sets as designed by longtime Luhrmann collaborator Catherine Martin, who appears to going even bigger than she's ever gone before.
The Great Gatsby, which was actually shot in 3D, arrives in theaters on December 25th.
