First 'Skyfall' Teaser Trailer: Shaken, Not StirredFirst 'Skyfall' Teaser Trailer: Shaken, Not Stirred

The very first teaser trailer for Skyfall has arrived online, bright and early for the Britons in James Bond's native soil, in the middle of the night for those of us in the colonies.  The trailer's coming was announced last week when the teaser poster was unveiled, now it's here to provide our first real look at footage from the twenty-third cinematic outing of Ian Fleming's world-class spy and lover of ladies the world over.

The teaser does more or less nothing to set up the story, but that's not a teaser's job.  A teaser's job is to let everybody know that a would-be blockbuster is not just on its way, but is actually worth anticipating.  This first look at Skyfall does just that, with a lot of handsome, rapid-fire imagery and Daniel Craig as James Bond being interrogated through some sort of word-association game that gives insight on the governmental hatchet-man's psyche and tantalizingly drops the movie's as-yet unexplained title, too.

Here you have the exceedingly impressive trailer, which debuted at 007.com.

When Sam Mendes was announced as the next Bond director (back when the movie was stuck in limbo thanks to the financial morass at MGM), there was some consternation from fans.  Sure, Mendes is an Oscar-winner with many a play under his belt and a varied filmography that includes Road to Perdition, American Beauty, Jarhead, and Away We Go, but many wondered if he'd bring the requisite action and visual panache.

This teaser suggests that the director and his second-unit team will indeed bring the thunder with action.  It also shows off the work of Skyfall's secret weapon: master cinematographer and nine-time Academy Award nominee Roger Deakins, the frequent Coen Brothers collaborator who reunites with his Jarhead director here.

Presumably, the third of Skyfall's budget that's coming from product placement helps in supplying the thrills that audiences demand from the exploits of 007.

Obviously Daniel Craig is back as the rough and tumble James Bond, along with Judi Dench playing his boss, M, once again.  The rest of the cast are new to the franchise, starting with Javier Bardem as the bad guy and continuing through Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, Helen McCrory, Albert Finney, and Ben Whishaw as the new gadget peddling Q.

Skyfall arrives in America on November 9th.
