See New 'Cosmopolis' Images and Sample the Score by Howard Shore & MetricSee New 'Cosmopolis' Images and Sample the Score by Howard Shore & Metric

Cosmopolis is set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this month, and when it does, we'll start getting some idea of just how nutty David Cronenberg's adaptation of Don DeLillo's 2003 novel really is.*  For now, though, we've got to work with what we've got.  Five days ago, the first official clip from Cosmopolis popped up online, and today, there's a smattering of new images, as well as a sampling of the score.

First up, let's attend to the musical side of things.  This film represents the fourteenth collaboration between director Cronenberg and composer Howard Shore.  Shore, the original Saturday Night Live bandleader and Oscar-winner behind the Lord of the Rings scores, cooked up something unconventional for Cosmopolis.  To achieve a particular live, atmospheric sound, Shore co-wrote three songs with Canadian outfit Metric and performed the score with them at the band's own Toronto studios.

You can listen to 30-second samples of each track in the score over at Howe Records.

As for the visual component of this audio/visual Cosmopolis tour, we humbly present nine images from the film.  All nine comes from the extensive gallery at Kinopoisk.  Click over that way to see many more.

The film stars Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer, a billionaire assets manager in his late twenties at an indeterminate point in the near future.  On the same day that he's dabbling in some rather risky foreign monetary endeavors, Packer sets out in his ultra-deluxe limousine to get a haircut, a whim that leads him on a surreal, horrifying journey through Manhattan.

Pattinson's got something to prove outside of the franchise that made him a household name, and he has support from the likes of Paul Giamatti, Sarah Gadon, Jay Baruchel, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Kevin Durand, Mathieu Amalric, and Anna Hardwick.

*Actually, don't count on it.  Cannes reactions are very often divided between those who passionately love a film and those who hate it with a fiery passion.  Considering that Cronenberg's working from a divisively-received novel, it seems pretty likely that Cosmopolis won't elicit a uniform response.
