Starcraft II is set to receive a whole bunch of updates to add a host of new features that affect its multiplayer mode. The features were highly requested by the game's thriving community of gamers.

Among the features Blizzard plans to add to Starcraft II is Global Play, which is first coming to Diablo III, allowing players from different regions to match up and play with each other.

The game will also see the addition of multilanguage support, clan support, unranked matchmaking, multiplayer replay viewing, and multiplayer resume functionality.

"We know how important eSports is for the StarCraft II community, and it’s important to us too," said production director Chris Sigaty. "For some time now we have been discussing ways to improve StarCraft II to ensure that tournaments both large and small run as smoothly as possible."

"While we are discussing many different improvements, we've heard your feedback and are creating a way that games can be continued if they are ended prematurely during an eSports event. We have been investigating solutions to this issue for some time, but we expect to offer the ability to resume play from a replay at or around the launch of Heart of the Swarm."

Blizzard plans to release these updates at or around the launch of the game's first expansion pack, Heart of the Swarm later this year.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm will be released before the end of the year.
