How can you tell? Because it includes Jason Statham uttering the line, "I now pronounce you man and wife" before killing a bunch of people with, you know, a knife. Amidst all the action, which includes the usual fisticuffs and explosions, along with vehicular mayhem on land, air, and sea, Sylvester Stallone's Barney Ross sums up the plot, explaining his plan to deal with the bad guys thusly: "Track em, find 'em, kill 'em." Pretty much sums it up, right?
The trailer, complete with Stallone's introduction, premiered today at IGN.
Has an actor ever gotten more cultural or political mileage out of a catchphrase than Arnold Schwarzenegger has managed to squeeze from, "I'll be back?" Twenty-eight years after The Terminator, his presence in The Expendables 2 is announced with yet another play on his famous T-800 line as he happily declares, "I'm back!" The mind reels.
This trailer goes out of its way to show that Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will indeed be participating in at least one action scene after the first film confined them to one dialogue scene, much to the dismay or action fans the world over. Sylvester Stallone once again leads the eponymous mercenary team, with capable support from Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Dolph Lundgren. Newcomers to the cast include Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, Chuck Norris, Charisma Carpenter, Nan Yu, and Jean-Claude Van Damme as the villain.
Simon West takes over for Sly as director, but it looks like he's provided all the requisite Expendables elements, from swaggering machismo to winking one-liners.
The Expendables arrives at a theater near you on August 17th, almost two years to the day after its predecessor.
