A Small Crop of New Stills from Rian Johnson's 'Looper'A Small Crop of New Stills from Rian Johnson's 'Looper'

How about we start this week off with three new Looper-related images?

Earlier this month, we saw the first trailer for Rian Johnson's third theatrical feature, and that trailer laid out the film's basic time-travel premise.  The idea is that, in the future, time-travel exists but is completely illegal and used almost exclusively by criminals sending victims back in time so as to leave no evidence of murder.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a looper, a guy who kills people sent back in time, but who has a problem when his latest hit turns out to be himself in the future.

Today's crop of images consist of one behind the scenes picture and two stills from the film itself, one featuring Emily Blunt wielding a rather large weapon and one with Gordon-Levitt in a stylishly lit room.  The behind the scenes photo has the star conversing with writer-director Johnson on location in Shanghai, China.

All three images originated at All Movie Photo.

Rian Johnson proved his chops with the hardcore high school noir Brick and his intricately plotted yet nicely whimsical con man movie The Brothers Bloom.  So when Rian Johnsons decides to do sci-fi, Rian Johnson's damn well going to do sci-fi and we're damn well going to watch it.

Technically, all three of Johnson's films have featured Gordon-Levitt, since he starred in Brick and showed up in a snazzy, soundless, superbrief cameo early in Brothers Bloom.  The actor will be playing against Bruce Willis as his older self, hence the makeup that recalls Willis's facial features.  The supporting cast here includes Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo, Garret Dillahunt, Tracie Thoms, and Sylvia Jefferies.

Looper hits on September 28th.  Be there.
