Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy

To say that this faintly risible adap of Irvine Welsh’s short story The Undefeated isn’t exactly Trainspotting would be an understatement. A big one.

Part of the problem is that lead Adam Sinclair is no Ewan McGregor, and his character – a drug addict-cum-smuggler who “just wants to be free” – is as grating as they come. His chemical romance with good-girl-gone-wild Heather (Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk) is doomed by lazy dialogue and the stars’ non-sizzle.

Billy Boyd’s distinctly un-Pippin turn as a psycho drug dealer aside, there’s little of interest in this misjudged, miswritten mess.
