Until today, the balance in the released clips was equal, with two focused on action and two on dialogue. On the action side, we've seen Black Widow beating up some stock baddies, as well as Captain America and Thor throwing down on some alien invaders. On the dialogue side, there was Nick Fury and Maria Hill discussing serious matters, then Tony Stark and Loki in a bit of verbal sparring.
Now, the balance tips towards dialogue clips. The new excerpt, which is courtesy of MSN UK, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston engage in a bit of heated conversation through Hulk-proof glass, while the Avengers themselves listen in from a safe distance.
If you remember, this was the same clip that Marvel debuted for fans attending Disney's D23 Convention in Anaheim last year. Now, it's available for all to see.
While too many event movies put more value on the big action set pieces and visual dazzle, this one is written and directed by Joss Whedon, the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. As such, The Avengers could just be the rare summer blockbuster in which the dialogue scenes sing just as much, if not more, than the big showstopping action beats. This clip, and especially the one between Loki and Stark, indicate that this might just be the case.
Whedon directs an ensemble cast that includes Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, and, of course, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston.
